SAM SHANEE on WHY protect Biodiversity through THIS IS MY EARTH – PART 3/4
How has your experience with This is My Earth been?
Over the last few years we’ve worked several times with This is My Earth, they’ve been very great in securing financing for land purchases to extend or to create new land areas for the communities we work with.
So This is My Earth has helped this local communities too?
Yes, thanks to This is My Earth we’ve been able to support these local communities with project proposals, including maps with priority species lists, as well as the ownership and the protection plans.
How many lands have you saved thanks to TiME?
We’ve been lucky enough to be able to secure the fundings through This is My Earth and this has led to the purchase of lands in two different areas, El Toro Forest and the Sun Angel’s Garden, each of them with endangered species. We are taking care of them since 2016 and 2017 and I can assure you that we are leaving the are just as it was.
Have you collaborated more afterwards?
This is My Earth has been able to follow-up those grants with supplemental grants which allowed us to buy drones to monitoring on the protection of the areas as well as side visits done by people from This is My Earth to meet face-to-face with the communities who are protecting the lands and see the projects first hand that we’ve been working on.
