Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) are free online courses available for anyone to enroll. MOOCs provide an affordable and flexible way to learn new skills.
Millions of people around the world use MOOCs to learn for a variety of reasons. From career development to college preparations, supplemental learning or lifelong learning.
This is My Earth is changing how people perceive their role in international cooperation and nature conservation. So are MOOCs: Massive Open Online Courses have dramatically changed the way the world learns.
Learn about our TiME to seed a Future
In this course you will learn how to engage your students in conservation real-life dilemmas. You will do so thanks to the equal and democratic interactive powers of TiME resources (this-is-my-earth.org). At the end of this course, your class will become actively involved in protecting biodiversity hotspots around the world.
By engaging students in discussions, you can help them understand the importance of protecting biodiversity hotspots. They play a crucial role in conservation efforts.
You can follow the course at your own pace. We will open one module at the beginning of each week. There are only a few deadlines you need to pay attention to (those for the quizzes and/or the peer-review activity).

Learning objectives
- Learn how to bring the topic of climate change and its impact on ecosystems to your students
- Be able to discuss conservation dilemmas with students and encourage their involvement in conservation efforts
- Discover ideas and tools for addressing conservation in the classroom
- Develop ideas for student-led conservation projects and activities, including debates, volunteering, fundraising and engaging local communities
- Design a lesson plan incorporating ideas from this online course
Certification
To receive the certificate, participants have to submit a lesson plan together with peer reviews. It will count for 100% of the grade.
The overall passing grade is 95%. The final deadline to complete all activities is Wednesday, 10 May, 23:59 CEST.

Course Staff
Uri Shanas – Course Moderator
Prof. Uri Shanas received a Ph.D. in Zoology from Tel Aviv University. Followed by a postdoc at Columbia University he joined the Department of Biology and Environment of the University of Haifa at the Oranim campus, Israel, and became an adjunct lecturer and researcher at the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies.
Published over 60 papers in peer-reviewed journals and served as the head of the department between 2009-2013. During 2007 he was a visiting academic at Massey University, New Zealand and during 2014-15 he was a visiting professor at Portland State University.
In addition, to academic activities, he is actively involved in nature conservation in Israel. He co-established the Israel Union for Environmental Defense, and served for 6 years on the board of directors of the Society for Protection of Nature and on the board of the governmental National Park and Reserve Authority, chairing the scientific professional committee.
He has also served in various committees including MAB (UNESCO), LTSER, and chaired the expert committee of the Israeli Green Movement Party. In 2016 he established the international organization, This is My Earth (TiME), which purchases and protects biodiversity hotspot lands around the world and developed a successful K-12 educational program based on the TiME platform.
Jelena Milenkovic – Course Editor
(International Education & Policy / Coordination and Pedagogy) Jelena works as a Project and Pedagogical Coordinator in the FCL/ESEP Department of European Schoolnet (EUN). She is the coordinator of the European Schoolnet Academy. Since joining European Schoolnet in 2018, Jelena worked as an editor, MOOC creator and coordinator for numerous projects, such as Scientix, Google, TIWI, NBS, STE(A)M IT.
